About the Medieval Colloquium

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Medieval Colloquium at the University of Virginia (otherwise known as MedColl) was founded in 2007 as the graduate component of the interdisciplinary Program in Medieval Studies. This interdisciplinary colloquium brings together medievalist graduate students from several different departments (English, French, German, History, Art History, Classics, and Religious Studies) to discuss medieval scholarship across disciplines, engage in the most recent scholarship in the field, share research projects in progress, and develop professional skills.

Over past ten years, MedColl has welcomed many scholars doing innovative research in medieval studies. Past visitors include Candace Barrington and Jonathan Hsy, Dimitri Kastritsis, Carissa HarrisJames Simpson, Peggy McCracken, Zrinka Stahuljak, and Alfred K. Siewers. In the 2017-2018 academic year, Amy HollywoodYasser Elhariry, Albrecht Diem, and Marisa Galvez will each give a lecture and a seminar to the graduate medievalist community at UVa.

MedColl meets monthly to discuss ongoing graduate student research, professional development, and the research of visiting scholars. We also receive annual funding to travel to the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo.
